Dr. Gitanjali G Govindrajan, a Certified Rehabilitation Professional (CRR No: A93207) with Rehabilitation Council of India, Honoris Causa (Social Work, LADC Institute, USA) is an educationist, social innovator, entrepreneur, and an Arts Based Therapy (ABT) Practitioner, an Arts Practices for Inclusion (API) Educator. She is a fellow of the Complementary Medical Association (UK), a TEDx speaker with a Post-Graduation Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation, a distinction with a CDP certified Diploma in Neuropsychology, and a university rank for her Masters in Biochemistry. She is on the path to be certified with the International Coaching Federation.

For over two decades Gitanjali been pioneering effective ways to bridge developmental deficits in education, and weave inclusion into the mainstream world. She has always been clear about wanting to spend time with children with special needs, learn of a world that does not discriminate, a people who love you for who you are and not what you do, who are not quick to judge, but rather quick to embrace. Years of working with children and adults, culminated in Snehadhara Foundation. Over the past few years Snehadhara has worked with around 7500 children through direct and weekly interventions, with over 70000 children through indirect interventions in schools and other receptive environments and trained over 2500 professionals in about 500 organisations across the country. Over the past two years, Snehadhara’s international journey has carried its best practices to Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Her research-based innovations in curriculum, pedagogy, content and delivery are what has allowed her to create pioneering innovations evidenced by recognition from marquee organisations like Qatar Foundation, Millenium Alliance, Association for Experiential Education at Montreal, Canada, Conferencia International, Buenos Aires, amongst others. Gitanjali consults with corporates to create a culture of inclusivity through appropriate trainings and workshops. She has conducted workshops regularly in diversity/inclusion for corporates like Oracle, AMAT, Alation, Intel, Google, Accenture to name a few.

Gitanjali many awards and accolades to her credit and her work has been recognized in various platforms internationally.  To mention a few – Gitanjali is an awardee of the Millennium Alliance Global Award 2020 which takes her stellar innovation ‘Kala Samvaad – Arts Practices for Inclusion’ to Nepal. She has been awarded the Nation Builder Award by Rotary Literacy Mission. Gitanjali has been awarded the 2nd Creative Art Therapy Award 2020 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of Art Therapy by the Sancheti Healthcare Academy as a recognition to the silent heroes who have done exemplary and exceptional work in the field of Creative Art Therapies.

She has been recognised by Global Ethics Forum and Indian Institute of Management, for working towards establishing an impartial and fair world. She has also spoken at the prestigious TEDx BITS Hyderabad on ‘The Goodness of Life’. Gitanjali was invited as a key speaker at the Conferencia Internacional – Por una Educacion que despliega las habilidades del Ser in Buenos Aires, 2019. Gitanjali has been selected as an ACTIVATEE speaker at the 45th International Association for Experiential Education (AEE) Conference in Montreal in November 2017. Gitanjali Govindrajan is the proud recipient of the Millennium Alliance Grant as a social innovator of one of the top five Innovations in the country for Education, 2017 by FICCI and in partnership with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Technology Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Gitanjali has been conferred an honorary doctorate in Social Work (LADC, USA) and holds a Masters in Biochemistry along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation. She has completed the TA 101 Course and training in Transaction Analysis and as a Coach with the International Coaching Federation. She also holds a Diploma in Neuropsychology (Accredited to Complementary Medical Association and Quality License Scheme). Gitanjali Govindrajan has a certificate in Psychological First Aid from Johns Hopkins University. She also has a certificate in Social Psychology from Wesleyan University. Born and educated in Mumbai, she has been a Lady Tata Memorial Scholarship Awardee and a University rank holder in Biochemistry. She has studied Applied Buddhist Psychology and Ethics from Pune University. Gitanjali is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and has trained in Hindustani and Carnatic vocals. She has trained under Arthur Hull in Drum Circle Facilitation. She is presently training in Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing.

Sarangan Soundararajan is the Managing Trustee at Snehadhara Foundation. After working in the corporate sector for over 25 years, Sarangan is now a facilitator in the Direct Care centre. His journey of working with direct beneficiaries with special needs began after he made a conscious decision to step down from his successful career in the corporate world . His sessions with the children this year has been in designing and facilitating the sports program and making musical instruments. Along with directly working with the children at the Direct Care space he also supports the activities of the organisation across its programmes. His own life journey brought him to contribute back to the young adults at the Government Observation home.

Sarangan is a good swimmer and has always had a flair for sports. He has represented his college in cricket and football. Sarangan is also passionate about cooking ,exploring his culinary skills and presently star gazing. He has always challenged traditional methodologies when it comes to schooling and teaching. Sarangan attributes his life experiences to be his best teacher. He proudly calls himself a homemaker and helps with his wife’s work -life balance. A man of few words, he enjoys working with rhythm and music. He has not been formally trained in music but plays various instruments including the harmonica and bulbultarang. He has trained under Arthur Hull in Drum Circle Facilitation.

Sarangan, holds an Engineering degree in Computer Science from Pune University. Quite early on in his life, he set out to carve a niche of his own. After completing Engineering, he chose to start his career with teaching Computer architecture at MIT Pune. ‘In his journey of over 2 decades in the IT industry”he has taken on challenging roles in Tata Elxsi , Silicon Graphics Inc. and Accenture.

Yashaswini Gupta, a trained Arts Practitioner for Inclusion, and an API supervisor, is a dynamic professional dedicated to leveraging the power of arts-based methodologies for social inclusion and empowerment. Holding an MA in Psychology from Ambedkar University Delhi and a BA in Psychology from Delhi University, she spearheads research initiatives as the Arts Practices for Inclusion Research Lead at Snehadhara Foundation.

Within Snehadhara Foundation, Yashaswini plays a pivotal role in program curation and execution across three key verticals: Direct care, impART, and Prajnadhara. She leads inclusion efforts, designing and negotiating DE and I opportunities with corporations, showcasing strengths in monitoring, evaluation, and documentation.

Yashaswini has been instrumental in co-designing and co-facilitating training programs, notably contributing to the establishment of Umang, a special needs center at the Army Cantonment at Itarana, Alwar. She has developed training modules for centers like Bubbles Centre for Autism and Amara Soundarya Foundation, and facilitated Parent Study Circles at Snehadhara. Additionally, she has led sessions on team building through community arts experiences for corporate clients including Cisco, Northern Trust, and Tata Coffee.

Proficient in process-oriented work, Yashaswini excels in creating monitoring and evaluation systems for programs under her purview. She demonstrates adeptness in research, co-authoring papers presented at esteemed conferences such as the Purple International Summit for Inclusive Education and the International Conference on Inclusive Collaborative Practices.

Yashaswini’s dedication to societal betterment is evident from her longstanding involvement in the social sector. She has completed the Digi Akshara Virtual Gurukulam program, exploring the implementation of arts-based interventions in digital platforms, and is presently earning Indian Sign Language from Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing. Prior to her role at Snehadhara Foundation, she facilitated Emotional Intelligence at a juvenile home with Light Up-Emotions Matter Foundation and conducted research on Social-Emotional Learning classrooms’ impact on children’s learning. Her early internship experiences in clinical psychology further enriched her understanding.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Yashaswini nurtures her passion for culinary arts through her home bakery. She is also trained in various dance forms including Ballet, Contemporary, Chhau, and Bharatnatyam, along with Hindustani classical vocal and instrumental music.

Sumathi Ramjee is the Joint Managing Trustee at Snehadhara Foundation and is part of the faculty of the Arts Practices for Inclusion Certificate course that has been launched in 2021. Sumathi, an Arts Based Therapy Practitioner has been the recipient of Pearson Teaching award for Outstanding Contribution to Special Needs children in the year 2012-2013 and Pearson Special Jury Award in the year 2012-2013. She has presented a poster on “Crossing Sensory Boundaries using Arts” at the South Asia International Autism Conference 2015, Delhi.

Sumathi is a First-Class B. Tech in Electronics from Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai. After working as an assistant director with the Institute for Design and electrical measuring instruments, Mumbai, her field diverged and she acquired a Certificate in Guidance and counselling from Christ College, Bangalore. Thereafter followed a certificate in Learning Disabilities, a Post Graduate Diploma in Creative Teaching, and a Certificate course on Arts Based Therapy from WCCLF, Pune.

Thereon Sumathi practised Special education, language therapy and ABT at Deepika, Snehadhara, Bubbles Centre for Autism and ASHA in Bangalore. Her domains of specialisation include Children with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Behavioural problems, Developmental Disabilities, Slow learners. She has been the creative director for ASHA school annual day programs for about 8 years.

Sumathi has trained facilitators during courses on “Inclusive Education”, “Learning Disabilities” and “Care givers”, conducted Summer Camps for Mainstream children and has been an ABT Guide to ABT Certificate students. She has led workshops in Teaching Aids, Creative Teaching, Teaching Methodologies, Stress Management, Process of Counselling, Personal Development, Memory techniques and Study skills, Learning Difficulties, Multisensory Teaching techniques, Multiple Intelligence, Differentiated Instruction, Fun ways of teaching Maths and Social Science. She has also conducted a course called “Creative Connections in Classrooms” for mainstream teachers focussing on alternative creative ways of teaching in a classroom. Ranjani has worked in the corporate as well as start-up space. Her primary focus of work has been Recruitment, HR Shared Services and Customer Relationship Management. She considers the experience she gained at the start up very enriching, as she could see value add and visible impact to the end consumers. Ranjani will be managing the different programs of Snehadhara in the capacity of a PMO. She will closely work with the Executive Director and the entire team to ensure the programs of Snehadhara run efficiently and smoothly. Ranjani was an athlete during her school days and continues to participate in 10Ks. She was bitten by the “environmental bug” after her daughter came into this world. She is very passionate about adopting green and sustainable practises in her day to day life. She composts and makes bio enzymes at home.

With a background in Sociology, Psychology and Multi Art forms Divya believes in the unifying power of the Arts to address social issues like gender, marginalization and exclusion. Divya’s learning journey broke conventional norms of higher education as she made a choice to first work, earn a living and then pursue her education in her aspirations to first serve the ones who are less privileged and marginalized. In her words, this was her payback for the learning opportunities she has received.

At the first available opportunity you will find Divya readily volunteer to be with infants, babies and singing and telling stories with Senior Citizen Groups in any gathering.

Divya is a combination of being an achiever in her own might, a dreamer and wanderer who is set out to travel the path less traversed to give all learners an even playing field.

Along with being a key contributor in the role of a Facilitator and Music Therapy Practitioner at Snehadhara since its inception, Divya is currently pursuing her bachelor’s in music from Chennai University. Divya Sarangan has completed her fundamentals of Music Therapy from Chennai School of Music Therapy, Chennai, trained and skilled in the application of Arts practices for the purpose of social inclusion marginalised individuals and groups as an Arts Practitioner for Inclusion, and has a certificate in Preventative healthcare for the newborn as well as International Women’s health and human rights from Stanford – March 2021.

Her experience in working with children ranges from working with children and adults with intellectual disabilities at Snehadhara Foundation, working and volunteering with children of night soil workers at Anna Swamy Mudaliar school in Bangalore and the Bandhavi programme at Koppal with children of the Devadasi community. Divya has been working with the children from the Arjunabetahalli Community and her research inclusion project is a culmination of integrated arts programme she designed for the group. During COVID, Divya worked briefly with a micro schooling project as an extension of zoom classes during lock down and created a hybrid model for children where they could come together and explore learning through arts and play. Divya was also a faculty with Digi Akshara, an online schooling system that worked with children with special needs through arts based interventions. In the past four years, she has worked with children from the age group of 2 years upto 17 years across learning settings, locations and formats.

A student of Centre for Learning (CFL) an alternative education system with Psychology and Sociology as majors, Divya’s schooling has been a successful experiment and has allowed her to keep her questions on life alive, explore a range of learning opportunities and continue her quest of seeking opportunities to serve and be with vulnerable groups. She strongly believes that what she is today and her outlook on life has been shaped by the three most important factors, the relationship she shares with her parents, her schooling at CFL and the varied experiences she has had as a learner.

Satish is a part of the support team of campus and helps out in the maintenance of the space, as well as directly works with children. He enjoys driving and playing different sports. He has also volunteered at Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram Kalaburagi for a few years. When he’s not on campus, he likes listening to music and has often given the children and the team soulful performances of Kannada and Telugu songs. He brings his energy into his engagement with the children and his fun and supportive demeanor is an asset to have in the sessions.

At Snehadhara, along with working with children he also takes care of Campus security and maintenance, compliance of health and safety.

Shaji has a profound affection for serenity, especially when he is in the company of children at Snehadhara, which fuels his passion for working with them.

Ooha V is a passionate psychologist with a Master’s in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Central University of Karnataka. She believes every moment has a story to tell and together they create a timeless tapestry of wonder. Her little but invaluable experience at schools, hospitals and community outreach has deeply embedded her with empathy, understanding and a belief that every individual deserves to be heard, seen and uplifted.

Her passion to work in the field is fueled by deep-rooted commitment to creating spaces where people feel safe and valued. Ooha thrives in building connections, understanding stories and walk alongside the individuals as they work on their narrative of life.

Outside of her professional work, she finds joy in her hobbies. Whether it’s getting lost in a good book, expressing herself through dance or swimming her worries away. She believes these personal passions help her connect more deeply with the individuals she works with, as movement, creativity, and mindfulness often provide powerful ways to communicate when words are hard to find.

She aspires to build bridges of trust and compassion, helping each individual navigate their unique journey with dignity and confidence.
